রিতা আক্তার। গ্রামের বাড়ি জয়পুরহাট। স্বপ্ন ছিলো বড় হয়ে ডাক্তার হবে। মা বাবা ও ভাইকে নিয়ে চলে আসেন ঢাকায়। বাবা রিকশা চালাতেন, আর মা করতেন বাসা বাড়িতে কাজ। ৫ই আগস্ট ২০২৪, মিরপুর ২ ওভারব্রিজের নিচে মিছিলে যোগ দিয়েছিলো রিতা। হঠাৎ পুলিশ গুলি বর্ষন শুরু করে।বুলেট এসে লাগে রিতার মাথায়। সাথে সাথে মারা যান রিতা। অনেক খুজে তার লাশ পাওয়া যায় সোহরাওয়ার্দী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে। তার মৃত্যুতে তার বাবা মা আজও শোকে কাতর। তবে রিতার মতো শত নারীর দেশের জন্য আত্মবলিদান ও বলিষ্ঠ মনোবল আজকের স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ। এই দেশ রিতা আক্তারদের মনে রাখবে চিরকাল।

Rita Akter. Her ancestral home was in Joypurhat. She dreamt of becoming a doctor when she grew up. She moved to Dhaka with her parents and brother. Her father drove a rickshaw, and her mother worked as a maid in houses. On August 5, 2024, Rita joined a procession under the Mirpur-2 overbridge. Suddenly, the police started firing, and a bullet struck Rita in the head. She died on the spot. After much searching, her body was found at the Sohrawardy Medical College Hospital. Her parents are still grieving her loss. However, the self-sacrifice and strong will of women like Rita for the country is what made today’s independent Bangladesh. This country will forever remember the sacrifices of people like Rita Akter.
