জুলাই–আগস্ট গণঅভ্যুত্থানে শহীদদের মধ্যে যাদের মরদেহ বেওয়ারিশ হিসেবে রায়েরবাজারে গণকবরে দাফন করা হয়েছিল, তাদের পরিচয় নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে সিআইডির ফরেনসিক বিভাগকে মরদেহ উত্তোলন ও ডিএনএ নমুনা সংগ্রহের নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়। এ উদ্যোগের অংশ হিসেবে ৭ ডিসেম্বর থেকে ২৭ ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত ডিএনএ নমুনা সংগ্রহ কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হয়।
আজ ৫ জানুয়ারি অনুষ্ঠিত এক প্রেস ব্রিফিংয়ে জানানো হয়, নিখোঁজ স্বজনদের সন্ধানে এ পর্যন্ত ৯টি পরিবার ডিএনএ নমুনা প্রদান করেছে। পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে এর মধ্যে ৮ জন শহিদের পরিচয় সফলভাবে শনাক্ত করা সম্ভব হয়েছে। সিআইডি নিশ্চিত করেছে যে, শনাক্ত হওয়া প্রত্যেক শহিদই গুলিবিদ্ধ অবস্থায় নিহত হন।
শনাক্ত হওয়া শহিদরা হলেনঃ শহিদ সোহেল রানা (৩৮), শহিদ রফিকুল ইসলাম (৫২), শহিদ আসাদুল্লাহ (৩২), শহিদ মাহিন মিয়া (৩২), শহিদ ফয়সাল সরকার (২৬), শহিদ পারভেজ বেপারী (২৩), শহিদ কাবিল হোসেন (৫৮) এবং শহিদ রফিকুল ইসলাম (২৯)। এ সময় শহিদদের পরিবারবর্গও উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
প্রেস ব্রিফিংয়ে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সিআইডি প্রধান অতিরিক্ত আইজিপি মো. সিবগাত উল্লাহ (পিপিএম, বিপিএম), অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের উপদেষ্টা আদিলুর রহমান, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা ফারুক-ই-আজম, স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ মন্ত্রণালয়ের প্রধান উপদেষ্টার বিশেষ সহকারী অধ্যাপক ডা. মো. সায়েদুর রহমান এবং জুলাই শহীদ স্মৃতি ফাউন্ডেশনের সিইও লেফটেন্যান্ট কর্নেল (অব.) কামাল আকবর। উক্ত সম্পূর্ণ কার্যক্রমটি জুলাই শহীদ স্মৃতি ফাউন্ডেশনের সমন্বয়ে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে।
During the July–August mass uprising, the bodies of several martyrs were buried as unidentified persons in a mass grave at Rayerbazar. In order to confirm their identities, the Forensic Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was instructed to exhume the bodies and collect DNA samples. As part of this initiative, DNA sample collection was carried out from 7 December to 27 December.
At a press briefing held today, 5 January, it was informed that so far nine families searching for their missing relatives have provided DNA samples. Through forensic testing, the identities of eight martyrs have been successfully confirmed. The CID confirmed that all of the identified martyrs were killed by gunshot wounds.
The identified martyrs are: Shaheed Sohel Rana (38), Shaheed Rafiqul Islam (52), Shaheed Asadullah (32), Shaheed Mahin Mia (32), Shaheed Faisal Sarkar (26), Shaheed Parvez Bepari (23), Shaheed Kabil Hossain (58), and Shaheed Rafiqul Islam (29). Family members of the martyrs were present at the briefing.
Those present at the press briefing included CID Chief Additional Inspector General of Police Md. Sibgat Ullah (PPM, BPM), Adviser to the Interim Government Adilur Rahman, Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Faruk-e-Azam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, and CEO of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) Kamal Akbar. The entire operation was carried out in coordination with the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation.
